Confluence Art Space is honoured to present “The Quiet Revolutionary: Chua Ek Kay”, a solo exhibition dedicated to the late Singaporean artist Chua Ek Kay. Hailed as the bridge between Eastern and Western artistic traditions, Chua forged a distinctive visual language that expanded the possibilities of contemporary Chinese ink painting. Bringing together 51 creations spanning three decades of the artist’s practice, the exhibition offers a comprehensive view of Chua’s artistic evolution from an artist grounded in traditional Chinese ink to an innovative artist renowned for challenging its conventions. While he continually experimented with abstraction, composition, colour, and Western artistic influences, the Zen-inspired stillness and contemplative qualities of Chinese ink painting remained fundamental to his practice. Through this quiet yet radical reinvention, Chua developed an artistic language that was unmistakably his own.
